Designing for Access: The Principles Behind Shaheen Money

Building a financial system that works for people — not the other way around.

At Shaheen Money, design is not just about pixels and payments — it's about principles. It's about creating a digital financial ecosystem that is accessible, affordable, inclusive, sovereign, transparent, secure, and human-centered.

"Inclusion isn't achieved through innovation alone. It happens when technology bends itself to the needs of people — not when people are forced to adapt to technology."

1. Accessible: Design for Everyone, Everywhere

Financial access shouldn't depend on geography, language, or literacy. Shaheen is built for the next billion users — not just the digitally fluent. From rural merchants to urban professionals, our interface speaks a universal design language: clean visuals, intuitive actions (send, receive, swap), and multi-language accessibility (Arabic, English, French, Turkish).

Baseline, not feature

We design for low bandwidth, not high-end devices — ensuring anyone with a smartphone can participate in the digital economy.

2. Affordable: Low Cost, High Impact

Fees are friction — and friction is exclusion. Shaheen's rails run on blockchain networks optimized for near-zero transaction costs (Stellar, Ripple, Polygon). Our on/off-ramp structure rewards Connectors and keeps costs local and sustainable.

No one should pay 15% to help their family. We call this designing for dignity.

3. Inclusive: Designed for People, Not Profiles

Traditional finance classifies people: banked, unbanked, high-risk, low-income. Shaheen sees people, not profiles. Every design decision — from onboarding to color contrast — respects diversity and representation. Inclusivity means belonging by design.

4. Sovereign: You Own What's Yours

Sovereignty is not a slogan. It's a right. Shaheen is built around self-custody — giving users full ownership of their digital assets and data. Through non-custodial wallets and recovery mechanisms (SEP-30 guardianship, multi-signature recovery), users retain ultimate control — no middlemen, no gatekeepers.

"Your money, your keys, your identity. That's what sovereignty feels like."

5. Transparent: Trust Through Clarity

Every Shaheen transaction is verifiable on-chain, every fee is visible, and every process is explainable in human language — not hidden behind terms of service. Transparency is the new trust layer.

6. Secure: Safety Without Complexity

If users feel anxious or confused, the system has failed — no matter how advanced the encryption. Shaheen implements security by design:

  • Multi-signature wallets
  • Biometric recovery
  • Decentralized guardianship model
  • Zero-knowledge KYC / AML verification

7. DPI-Aligned: Open, Interoperable, People-Powered

Shaheen is inspired by the Digital Public Infrastructure movement — the belief that digital systems should serve the public good as openly and fairly as physical infrastructure once did.

  • Open standards (APIs, SEP protocols) for interoperability
  • Local sovereignty for regional deployment
  • Private-public collaboration that prioritizes inclusion over profit

8. Crypto 2.0: Stable, Responsible, Real

Volatility and speculation alienated the very people crypto promised to empower. Shaheen is part of Crypto 2.0 — a stable, utility-driven, compliance-aligned generation of digital money — built on stablecoins (USDC, USDT) and regulated rails (Bridge.xyz, Ripple, Stellar).

9. Human-Centered UX: Designed With, Not For

Our design process starts from the ground up — in conversations, not code. We co-design with Syrian merchants, Jordanian freelancers, Egyptian students, and Lebanese expats. Our goal is simplicity that feels invisible — where technology disappears and what remains is trust, clarity, and ease.

"If a grandmother in Aleppo can send money without help, then we've succeeded."

Access is not a privilege; it's a design choice. Shaheen Money — Money without borders. Freedom without limits. Built on trust. Powered by people.
